About — At The Overlap

Welcome — I’m Anisa Heck.

At The Overlap began with a simple observation:

The most interesting questions rarely live in one discipline.

My background spans food science, nutrition, strategy, and digital transformation and I currently work at the intersection of science, change, and digital systems, focusing on laboratory environments and practical realities. I’ve worked with laboratory systems, numerous types of scientific data, and process design. I’ve also lived across countries and navigated personal challenges, including having to adapt to mobility changes. This has reshaped how I think about independence, energy, and the invisible work behind “stability.”

Those experiences inform how I see the world:

Through patterns. Through trade-offs. Through the tension between simplification and reality. At The Overlap is where those threads come together — through writing that explores patterns across science, systems, and everyday life.

In every domain, across experiences, I kept noticing the same pattern:

What looks stable on the surface is often constant adjustment underneath. What looks simple at a glance is often filled with complexity.

Food debates. AI governance. Policy and regulatory updates. Organizational restructuring. Personal adaptation.

Different contexts. Same underlying dynamics.

This blog explores those dynamics through short essays and reflections.

Not to offer quick answers. Not to flatten complexity.

But to make the patterns visible — so we can respond to change more thoughtfully.

What You’ll Find Here

I write about ideas that don’t always fit neatly into job titles or CVs — the parts of work and life that are curious, interconnected, and sometimes surprising.

It’s not a technical journal. And it’s not a personal diary.

Here you’ll find reflections at the intersection of food, people, work, and lived experience.

All with the aim of making complexity legible — without pretending it’s simple.

Glad You Are Here

If you’re curious by nature, love learning how things work, or enjoy exploring ideas from different angles, I’m glad you stopped by.

— and this is At The Overlap

Making complexity legible — without pretending it’s simple.

Science evolves. Policies shift. Technology accelerates. Life changes.

Instead of asking, “Why can’t this stay consistent?”

I’m more interested in asking, “What’s actually happening underneath?”

Here you’ll find reflections at the intersection of science, work, people, and lived experience — exploring how stability is maintained through movement, and why visible change isn’t the same as failure.

Thanks for stopping by — I’m glad you’re here.
